Participants will be required to address one of the following scenarios in their design:
Scenario 1 - Residential building to be located in Sichuan Rural Area
Each building to accommodate 100 household units. Unit size to be 30%@90sqms, 40%@120sqms, 30%@150sqms gross floor area. Each building to be 2-3 storey high Incorporate sustainable design and utilize available local materials Allow 5% of the total gross area for communal facilities which address the local cultural context Demonstrate the quake-resistant nature (up to 8.0 magnitude) of the building structure Allow for the rapid urbanization of China's rural areas in the next 10-15 years Enable cost-effective construction
Scenario 2 - Residential building to be located in Sichuan Urban Intermediate Zone
Each building to accommodate 150 household units, unit size to be 60-90sqms. Maximum building height of 35 meters Incorporate sustainable design and utilize available local materials Allow 5% of the total gross area for communal facilities which address the local cultural context Demonstrate the quake-resistant nature (up to 8.0 magnitude) of the building structure Allow for the rapid urbanization of China's rural areas the next 10-15 years Enable cost-effective construction
Eligibility
The competition is open to currently enrolled students who are residents in China (The Mainland, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan). Participants are offered the choices of two scenarios for their design entries. Each team shall only submit one design entry for each scenario. All entries must be students pursuing a degree while fully enrolled for the entire period of the academic period during which the competition is conducted. Each design team should have one team leader under whose name the submission is to be made. Teams shall be disqualified if their application is late or does not contain the necessary documentation of members of the team.
